This foundation year pathway provides an alternative route into degree-level study. It’s ideal for those who need to gain subject-specific knowledge and skills in order to progress onto the full BSc (Hons) Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation qualification.
Throughout your degree, you'll learn how to achieve optimal racehorse performance including returning the thoroughbred to peak condition following an injury.

You’ll benefit from our strong links with racing professionals as well as our research-active commercial Equine Therapy Centre on campus, which rehabilitates racehorses, and other equine athletes, back to competition.

The majority of courses are comprised of both compulsory and optional modules, the latter of which you'll be able to choose from to suit your interests and career goals. Most courses also include work placement learning, to help you gain essential experience for your future.
Modules include: Foundation Skills Development, Academic Skills in Practice (Internship), Reviewing Literature, Foundation in Equine Studies, Foundation Biological Principles, Equine Functional Anatomy, Equine Veterinary Science, Management of Equestrian Facilities, The Global Racing Industry, Professional Development Practice for the Racing Industry, Equine Diagnostics and Therapy, Introduction to Equine Performance Analysis, Racehorse Performance and Rehabilitation, Undergraduate Research Process, Dissertation, Analysis of Equine Performance, Racehorse Therapy and Rehabilitation.

Standard Qualification Requirements
Typical offer is DD-EE or equivalent. This must include a minimum of one A Level.
Typical offer is 32-48 UCAS tariff points in Scottish Highers. This must include a minimum of one Higher.
Typical offer is 32-48 UCAS tariff points in an Access to Higher Education Diploma.
Typical offer is 32-48 UCAS tariff points in an IB Diploma, to include a minimum of one Highers at H3 or above.
This must also include Maths and English Language at a minimum of Standard Level S3 if equivalent GCSE's have not been obtained.
Typical offer is a PPP in an Extended Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject.

We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants. We may interview mature applicants and those with non-traditional qualifications.
If you don't meet our tariff points requirement we will still consider your application and may be able to offer you a place on an alternative programme. Each application is considered on its own merits and we will consider combinations of the above mentioned qualifications or equivalent.
