Aston University is The Guardian's 'University of the Year' 2020. **Course description** Our four-year BSc International Business and Management course, with an integrated placement year, offers a core strategic management focus within an international business context and has been developed in response to demand by graduates and our own advisory panel of international employers. The study of international business is more important than ever. Technological, political and economic developments mean that daily business transactions can be conducted on a global scale which gives international managers an added advantage in the employment market. You will gain a solid understanding of strategic management in international business. You’ll discover how differences in culture influences the way we conduct business and understand how to operate in challenging international environments. We recognise that a number of applicants have not studied languages to an advanced level, but may desire the skills to operate in an international business arena. This degree enables you to study International Business and Management purely in English, with the third year spent studying and /or working in an overseas, English-speaking environment. Although this degree does not include any language modules in your first year, you’ll have the option to include a language from scratch, or at an advanced level as an extra-curricular option free of charge. Languages can be included from scratch or at an advanced level in your second and final year. - Year 2 - From the second year onwards, this degree offers a great deal of flexibility for you to begin tailoring your degree. The core modules will allow you to specialise in the economics of international business, and gain vital skills in communicating effectively across cultures. You will learn about the relationship between business, government and society, and put your knowledge into practice in a virtual business simulation. The remaining modules are chosen from broad subject streams, including Accounting and Finance, Economics, Marketing and Languages. - Year 3 – This is when you will undertake a professional placement oversea's or choose an international study opportunity at one of our partner institutions. This year is compulsory for all UK students. - Year 4 - During your final year you’ll continue to study your specialist area(s), developing your knowledge and skills in international strategies, management decisions and solving business problems. The remaining modules are chosen from broad subject streams, including Accounting and Finance, Economics, Marketing and Languages.

Course Details - Modules

In the First Year, you will study a wide range of management related subjects, designed to ensure you have a broad foundation and knowledge of management. You will consider the economic, financial, human and legal issues managers deal with, and the tools and techniques they use. You will be introduced to the key areas of business as well as carrying out project work which will help draw together the subjects you have studied. During the Second and Final Years you can choose to specialise in one or both streams of: International Management and International Communications for Business. The Third Year, or Placement Year, allows you to choose to work overseas or undertake a study exchange to further your knowledge of your specialist areas. Please note that this year is optional for International Students (students from outside Europe).
