There’s a huge demand for talented graduates with a passion for animal training. You’ll tailor your learning to your interests, analyse performance, and develop training plans. The course will focus on dogs, but you’ll also study other animals. Our 70-species Animal Collection provides plenty of opportunities to develop your experience with different species. Benefit from our excellent industry connections with dog trainers, behaviourists, scientists and athletes across the UK – which could lead to placements, volunteering, field trips and inspirational guest speakers. All training is underpinned by the strictest ethics and supported by the latest scientific evidence. This degree doesn’t qualify you to become a behaviourists or trainers. It exposes you to the key scientific principles underpinning animal training, performance and rehabilitation.

Our modules are developed regularly to reflect student and industry demands, ensuring you’re well prepared to enter skilled employment on graduation. The majority of courses are comprised of both compulsory and optional modules, the latter of which you'll be able to choose from to suit your interests and career goals. Most courses also include work placement learning, to help you gain essential experience for your future. Modules include: Foundation Skills Development, Academic Skills in Practice (Internship), Reviewing Literature, Foundation Animal Studies, Foundation Biological Principles, Introduction to Animal Training and Performance, Animal Behaviour and Welfare, Fundamental Skills for the Animal Scientist, Systems Biology, Animals in Society, Animal Health and Disease, Animal Nutrition, Animal Structure and Motion, Principles of Assessing Animal Performance, Undergraduate Research Process, Management and Training of the Animal, The Canine Sector, Advanced Animal Training, Dissertation, Advanced Animal Performance Analysis, Management and Rehabilitation of the Canine Athlete. In addition to the above Level 3 qualifications, a minimum of 5 GCSE A* to C, (or 9 to 4), or equivalent, to include English Language and Mathematics are required. We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants. We may interview mature applicants and those with non-traditional qualifications. If you don't meet our tariff points requirement we will still consider your application and may be able to offer you a place on an alternative programme.
