This course comprises of eight modules of study – all at Level 4 and all carrying 15 credits each. There are three compulsory modules, plus five optional modules. The choice of optional modules will determine the title of the final HNC award.
Both pathways contain the following compulsory modules:
Fundamentals of Laboratory Techniques – 15 credits
Scientific Data Handling – 15 credits
Regulation and Quality in Applied Sciences – 15 credits
Specific additional compulsory modules are required for each pathway, together with optional modules.
Please note that every effort will be made to accommodate individual choices of optional modules, but the College cannot guarantee that every option will always be available.
For the Biology pathway, there are three additional compulsory modules:
Cell Biology
Fundamentals of Chemistry,
Anatomy and Human Physiology
Two optional modules are also chosen from the following:
Principles of Ecology and Their Applications
Fundamentals of Biochemistry
Microbiological Techniques
Personal and Professional Development for Scientists
For the Chemistry pathway, there are three additional compulsory modules:
Inorganic Chemistry – 15 credits
Organic Chemistry – 15 credits
Physical Chemistry – 15 credits
Two optional modules are also chosen from the following:
Introduction to Material Properties & Applications – 15 credits
Introduction to Polymer Materials & Properties – 15 credits
Personal & Professional Development for Scientists – 15 credits
