**Course description**
Our four-year BSc Economics and Management course, with an integrated placement year, provides you with the skills, knowledge and experience to enhance your profile in the graduate job market. This course looks at different aspects of economics and management, combining them to enable you to excel in your professional life and broaden your career options.
The course will provide you with the skills to enable you to analyse how changes in the economic environment affect business organisations, therefore making more informed decisions. You’ll also develop practical management skills that will enable you to effectively manage and lead a team. You’ll develop a theoretical and an applied approach to the world of business economics, understand how macroeconomics underpins everything we do, while getting down to the detail with microeconomics in specific business cases.

**Course details**
- Year 1 – You will study a wide range of modules designed to ensure you have a broad foundation and knowledge of management. You’ll consider the economic, financial, human and legal issues managers deal with and the tools and techniques they use.
- Year 2 – You will start to specialise in economics and management subjects. The modules will lay a solid foundation towards your final year studies. In addition to developing a good understanding of theories, there is also emphasis on the application of theories towards understanding how businesses and economies operate. Subject areas include Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Markets, Games and Strategy.
- Year 3 – This is when you will undertake a professional placement or choose an international study opportunity at one of our partner institutions. This year is compulsory for all UK students.
- Year 4 - The final year continues with further specialisation in economics and management, with a strong emphasis on the application of theories towards understanding and enhancing the functioning of businesses and economies. Subject areas include International trade, Environmental economics and Entrepreneurial economics.

The First Year studied on all Aston Business School undergraduate degree programmes is designed to give students a broad knowledge of business and management.
