This course starts each September and is awarded by the University of Surrey. • The programme provides the specialised skills needed for those who want to go on to work in such areas as editorial, advertising, and commercial storytelling • Taught at University Centre Farnborough, with modern facilities and access to the latest software including Adobe Creative Suite; Photoshop, Illustrator & After Effects in modern Mac studios • This programme gives you the chance to combine a traditional approach with digital methods • You will have opportunities to get involved with live industry briefs, work placements and competitions • Being taught over two full days per week, the course gives you more flexibility in balancing work or family commitments Illustrators are usually commissioned to create drawings that tell a story, message or idea for a variety of brands, advertisements, books, magazines, packaging and more. It can be an exciting varied role that puts creativity at the heart of your career. At Farnborough, you will work on live industry briefs, design work placements and enter international design competitions. You will also be taught the latest Adobe Creative Suite software including Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects in up-to-date Apple Mac studios. This course explores a number of areas of illustration; from editorial and character design to comic books and book cover design. You will develop a portfolio to industry standard, preparing you for your transition into employment or further study. **WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?** This programme is suited to those with a passion for art who would like to specialise in illustration. This degree is the perfect area to study if you are looking to further your skills or retrain in the commercial creative industry. This course has been set up to provide you with a vocationally relevant qualification in the dynamic world of commercial illustration. You might currently be studying a Level 3, A Level, or Access to Higher Education course; be returning to education after a break, or wish to transfer from another higher education institution. It may also be possible for you to join this course in its second or third year following relevant qualifications and/or experience in the workplace. **WHAT WILL I STUDY?** The first year of this degree focuses on exploring illustration practices, visual practices and sequential Illustration. In your second year you will explore narrative illustration, editorial illustration and motion graphics. You will also undertake a work placement to develop your on-the-job confidence, experience and skill set. The final year of your degree focuses on your specialism through your major project as well as undertaking industry competition briefs.
