Course Summary

This employment related programme is ideal if you are seeking a career with or are already working with young children. The programme covers a wide range of topics related to the care, wellbeing and education of young children. You will undertake a work placement in an early years setting one day per week during the programme, ensuring you have the practical skills and experience needed for employment. Small class sizes mean that you will enjoy peer support and opportunities to work collaboratively and our links with local employers ensure that you will be well placed for further training and employment in the sector. Most students continue on to the Early Childhood Studies Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons) or Education Studies Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons) at Plymouth University (subject to approval). Other students continue their Early Childhood studies path at other universities or continue to the BSc Health & Social Care top up course here at Exeter College. Postgraduate qualifications could include qualified teacher status, early years teaching or the masters degree in social work. Alternatively some students go straight into employment within an early years setting following the completion of their honours degree.
