Philosophy and Literature (Including Foundation Year)
Course Summary
Our BA Philosophy and Literature (including foundation year) is suitable for you if your academic qualifications do not yet meet our entrance requirements for an undergraduate course. This four-year course includes a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by a further three years of undergraduate study. Our compulsory English language and academic skills module supplements your academic subjects. N
Many employers seek graduates with the critical thinking skills to solve practical problems, both logically and creatively. Our BA Philosophy and Literature trains you to do this and provides you with a rigorous training in both philosophy and literature. Our wide-ranging and flexible curriculum embraces different traditions of philosophical thought, and explores English literature through several genres and periods. Our philosophical strengths lie in the areas of ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of religion, and European philosophy (including critical theory, phenomenology, and existentialism). Meanwhile our academics from our Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies are award-winning poets, novelists, playwrights and writers. We're proud of our literary legacy and over the years we've been home to Nobel Prize winners, Booker Prize winners and Pulitzer Prize winners.
