Course Summary

This highly practical course combines marketing theory with interactive projects, group work and business simulation games to explore the major issues facing marketers today. We develop your creativity, analytical and strategic decision making skills so you can maximise business performance in fast-moving, digitally connected and international markets. You study topics such as: the principles of markets, marketing and selling; marketing strategy and planning; services marketing; business-to-business marketing; consumer behaviour and marketing communications. You undertake an independent research project in your final year, where you explore an area of marketing of your choice. Your first year provides an introduction to essential business topics such as entrepreneurship, economics, accounting, finance, management and marketing. You spend your third year studying abroad. Studying with one of our exchange partners in the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the Middle East, Hong Kong and Japan is a fantastic way to demonstrate to employers that you’re mature, adaptable, and organised. Essex is one of just three UK universities to have Q-Step Affiliate status, including for this course. This means we can provide work placement bursaries to develop your numerical and quantitative skills and offer the chance to follow a specialised degree path in Applied Quantitative Methods. These are evidenced on your degree transcript, to help give you an advantage in the graduate job market. This course is taught at Essex Business School, the largest department at the University of Essex. Our campus is just an hour’s train journey from London and some of the world’s leading marketing agencies and departments. It is situated in the heart of the town centre, with a host of restaurants, bars and shops, and just a few minutes’ walk from the seafront.
