You will develop the skills you need to transform your excitement about art, architecture and visual culture into the ability to uncover new insights about the material you study. You will also develop a solid grounding in the history of art and other forms of visual culture, including the ideas and forces that shaped their production, distribution and reception.
Modules explore a wide variety of media, including architecture, urbanism, photography and video, as well as painting, drawing, printmaking, performance art and sculpture. At Essex you enjoy a structured programme of study trips at home and abroad and combine your interests with vocational modules designed with exhibitions and curations in mind. We are also home to our own art gallery with over 750 pieces, the Essex Collection of Art from Latin America (ESCALA).
