Mathematics at university encourages students to think in an entirely different way. As well as developing a rigorous mindset, a mathematics degree introduces you to new mathematical concepts and delves into areas you won' t have explored at school. This programme provides a broad understanding of mathematics before specialising in statistics in later years. It teaches you a new way of approaching and analysing complex problems - a particularly valuable skill, applicable to many exciting career paths. A knowledge of statistics is also valued by employers, so this programme gives you an excellent range of career options. **Outside subjects** In addition to your Year 1 and 2 mathematics courses, you will study courses in other subjects. These may be in related areas such as physics or informatics. Or choose from the wide and varied range offered across the University, including philosophy, economics or languages. You will take courses in statistics from Year 2 onwards. From Year 3 of the programme, you will study only your degree subject. **Second Year Entry** Well-prepared applicants can enter this programme in Year 2 and follow an accelerated programme. On this route, your studies will be focused on mathematics from the beginning, rather than including a range of subjects in your first and second years. On the accelerated programme, we support your Year 2 mathematics courses with extra courses covering the key ideas in algebra, calculus and proofs from Year 1 of the programme.
