Do you have a love of the outdoors, the environment, and a hunger to understand how our planet works? Are you concerned about how the changing climate is impacting our atmosphere, oceans, environment and landscapes? Geography may be for you.
**What is geography?**
Geography is the study of the way the world works. You can explore our ever-changing world from volcanoes, flooding, and climate change through to human issues such as sustainability, health, and social justice.
Understanding geography is becoming increasingly important, as our planet and humanity face some of the biggest challenges we have ever known.
You can explore geography:
* as a natural science through physical geography, or
* through the social sciences and humanities as human geography
**The BSc Geography**
The BSc Geography is an environmental geography degree. It enables you to specialise in physical geography, using natural science to learn about the Earth' s surface processes.
You will explore the changes happening to our planet, either naturally or as a direct result of the actions of people around the world. These include:
* climate change
* environmental degradation
* natural hazards
You will have the opportunity to learn quantitative skills, including computer modelling, mapping and data presentation using Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
Demand is growing for these data skills across a range of employment sectors.
You will also study aspects of human geography, as it is essential to understand our impact on the world and our ways of living within it.
The programme is flexible, so you will have opportunities to build your degree around areas that you are most curious or passionate about.
**Open to a world of possibilities**
By studying geography at the University of Edinburgh, you will:
* join one of the top-ranked universities in the world
