Course Summary

If you can picture yourself as the first blue-light service on the scene of a serious incident, holding your nerve, relying on extensive training, education and experience, and delivering potentially life-saving treatment, you may have what it takes to be a paramedic. Paramedics are highly skilled practitioners who work in challenging and dynamic environments on the front line of the NHS, ensuring patients are provided with the best possible care outside the hospital environment. The role requires knowledge and skills in areas such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, illness and disease, clinical assessment, legal and ethical issues, leadership and teamwork. Taught primarily at St James’, our Manchester city centre location, you will practice clinical scenarios in our immersive simulation suite and experience front line service with emergency ambulance crews, taking advantage of placements across the North West of England in both urgent/emergency care and wider health and social care settings. You will also be required to travel to the Edge Hill University campus in Ormskirk for a variety of taught sessions, assessments and learning opportunities during the programme.
