Course Summary

This degree is for those who are passionate about geology, especially those with a particular interest in applied engineering or environmental geosciences. It immerses you in geological sciences, which deal with the physical structure and substance of the earth, their history, and the processes that act upon them, enriched by selected elements of physical geography reflecting the present-day expression of those processes. Fieldwork in the UK and abroad will help you gain a firm grasp of the fundamental aspects of hard and soft rock geology before the focus of the degree shifts to applied geology and, in particular, environmental engineering and extractive geology. The physical geography element of the course can support your interests and may include, for example, coastal and fluvial geomorphology, weather and climate, soils and natural hazards. The programme provides a wealth of transferable skills, enhanced with tailored careers and employability activities across each of the three years, to help you find the career of your choice.
